Arewa Youths Protests Over Insecurity In The Northern States

The current incessant killings in the North especially in Kastina and the Government's continuous paying of the deaf ear has made the Northern
Youths to jump out from their different holes irrespective of their political views to protest against the killings happening around them.

Thousands of them took to streets on 16th June 2020 with placards having different write-ups to protests as the killing, kidnapping, murdering, banditry and other illicit activities are on the increase. Some have placards written "Stop the bloodshed" while others have "Our leaders have failed Us".

The Protests which were described as a peaceful one, had the company of the Nigeria Police Force monitored in order to maintain peace and also discipline.

The Police Commissioner while addressing the mammoth youths, commended them on the manner in which they conducted themselves in the process of the protests and assured them that the security operatives are doing their best to ensure that peace is restored in the region.

He went further to admonish them to report any suspicious movement by these unscrupulous elements so that their activities will be ended by the combined efforts of Police and other forces.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has described the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari as a failed government following the recent killings in the North, and the government's inability to combat the menace. The party also described the President's speech on Democracy Day as a slap on democracy as they pointed out that government left important issues unaddressed.

Earlier today, the former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who also contested under the platform of PDP in the last general election, also decried government insensitivity via the nation's debt crisis. According to him Nigeria is in crisis financially while government is busy with over expenditure.

He also maintained that government must cut unnecessary spending such as maintenance of Presidential fleet, treatment abroad by some government officials. He went further to revealed the level of impunity with which government borrow money despite the current financial situation in the country, thereby leaving the unborn generations in debt.
