Nigeria Solidly Behind Your Re-election As The President African Development Bank Buhari Tells Adesina

President Buhari of Nigeria has assured Akin Adesina of the entire Country's support on his quest for re-election as the President of African
Development Bank.

On Tuesday, while discussing with Adesina in the Statehouse Abuja, the President reiterated his support, including those of the leaders and stakeholders.




While commending him on his effort in the first term of his office, tasked him more ahead of his second term when re-elected.

The President, however, noted that his support for Dr. Adesina is not based on party membership, rather in the spirit of selfless service and true leadership.

According to his statement, "In 2015, when you were elected for the first term, I wrote to all African Leaders recommending you for the position.

"I didn't say because you were a PDP Minister, and I belonged to APC, so I would withhold my support," says Buhari.

Adesina who expressed his gratitude to the President for his unending support stated that he was not guilty of the charges laid against.

He continued by saying that it was an allegation against him in a bid to stop his further re-election as he was excluded from all charges by the Governors of the bank.

While disclosing this to the President during the meeting, he however faulted the move of the US to probe him, stressing that it was against the rule guiding the bank.

African Development Bank which has its headquarter in Abidjan Cote d' Ivoire, with 81 Country membership and more than 2,000 staff is a multilateral body. It was also founded in 1964.

Adesina who assumed office about four years ago seeks to be re-elected a second time, which will see him seal an eight years deal as AfDB President.

Several groups have reportedly warned about the external body meddling into the case of the allegations leveled against him.

The support which was drawn for Dr. Adesina by the President yielded a positive result as his victory was announced on 27th August 2020 by the President Buhari through his twitter handle as the winner of the African Development Bank.


The President also expressed his sincere gratitude to all the African leaders who stood in for Adesina to ensure the success of his re-election while promising his continuous solidarity for a successful tenure.

"I congratulate on his re-election for a second term in office as President of the AfDB Group.


"It is a well-deserved victory. I have no doubt that in this second term Dr. Adesina will accomplish even more of his lofty vision for the Bank.

"I thank the African Union for its early endorsement of Dr. Adesina and also thank the shareholders of the bank who worked tirelessly for his re-election victory.

"Let me reiterate my earlier pledges of the full support of the Nigerian government to ensure a successful second term for Dr. Adesina. I pray that the Almighty God will continue to strengthen him and his team to deliver even greater development to the African continent," President said.
