Buhari Recognizes Former UN General Assembly
Following the successful completion of tenure in the Union General Assembly, President Mohammadu Buhari has recognized the outstanding performance of Prof Tijani Muhammad Bande today, 28 September 2020 as the 74th President of the Assembly.

Speaking in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Garba Shehu, the President noted that Prof Bande has made Nigeria proud indeed through his untiring efforts.

While praising him in what he described as a stellar performance, the President said "and I wish to pay glowing tributes to you for your huge achievements as Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations (UN). By this stellar performance, you have made history for Nigeria and indeed for the whole of Africa."

In a further remark, President Buhari also extols the cardinal role he played in the UN global initiatives, one of which is advancing the achievement of the sustainable development goals especially in the areas of Poverty eradication, zero hunger, and quality education, says "realizing these goals remains the objective of all the developing countries."

Prof Muhammad-Bande took the oat of office in the UN General Assembly in September 2019 till his tenure expiration on 28 September 2020. According to the President, he successfully achieved all the set-out goals while occupying such a highly esteemed position.

“The Government and People of Nigeria note with satisfaction, the accolades were given you as unifier and voice of moderation at the UN, especially in these troubled times.” General Buhari commended.

Prof Bandes' efforts according to the President include “achievements in multilateralism, and making Nigeria and Africa proud.”
