Sen. Ararume Fails To Secure APC's Ticket
The just concluded primaries of the All Progressive Congress ahead of Okigwe Senatorial Zone election in Imo State has been a big tussle for politicians especially the notably influential ones in the aforementioned zone.

The party held it's primaries on Thursday 3rd September 2020 at the Okigwe Local Government Council of Imo State, according to a media report. The result announced by the Party's primary election committee chairman, Dr Surajudeen saw Mr Frank Ibezim emerge winner, defeating Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume and others.

Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume who hails from Isiebu in Isiala Mbano LGA in Imo State, had represented the Okigwe Senatorial Zone two term in office during the Obasanjo's administration. He has also been a four time Governorship flag bearer in different platforms but fails to clinch victory in all.

Before the election, many had questioned his reason for joining in the race, pointing out that his involvement in the election remains irrelevant as a past Senator who had once occupied that position.

While the law made provision for any individual who had once occupied a previous position, the opportunity to run concurrently the same position without any breach, many declared him unfit for the position.

Folowing the death of the former Sen. Benjamine Uwajumogu, who died after a heart cardiac arrest on December 2019 in Abuja, the seat has been alleged to be occupied by his wife immediately after his burial as stated in the media.

Others who had joined and lost in the jostle include according to Nigerian vanguard online; Mathew Omegara(2,826), Athan Ikemba Achonu(1,185) former occupant of the seat before the court's nullification), Uchendu Mark(1,438), Chidinma Uwajumogu(1,051) Sister of the deceased Sen. Uwajumogu), Uche Uba(49), Eze Okoro(54), Bright Nwachukwu(67), Onuoha Chikwem(1,456), Ihim Acho(826).

Ibezim Frank polled 13,637 defeating Ararume who polled 2,708 alongside others to emerge victorious. The election was a peaceful one as no report of violence or whatsoever upheaval was recorded.

APC is therefore expected to sweep all the votes during the general election, as the ruling party and as the occupant of the seat unless stated otherwise by the masses on the election day.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Edo State Governorship election slated for September 17th 2020, the opposition party, PDP today in a press release commended the Oba of Benin for his fatherly role in maintaining peace among parties across the state.

The Party further called on all stakeholders in the State to emulate the footstep of the traditional ruler by abiding by INEC status-quo without stiring violence during and after the election.

Recalled that PDP had called on the former chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomole and the state's party flag bearer, Pastor Ize-Iyeamu to tender an apology to Nigerians following the destruction of property at the Oba's Palace alleged to be carried out by APC loyalists.

In order to avert such inccident, caution needs to be applied by all players and platforms involved. Moreso, guidelines provided by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control(NCDC) should also be observed to avoid further spread of the Corona Virus.
