Senate Okays NPC, CPC Appointment By Mr President
The Nigerian Senate under the leadership of Mr. Ahmad Lawan today okays the appointment of Chairman and Commissioners of the National Population Commission and that of the Chairman, Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive, Executive Commissioners of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission as nominated by the President.
This took effect during a plenary session of the upper chamber on Executive Communication, confirmed by the Senate Leader, Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi seconded by the minority leaders.
On the National Population Commission, the senate cited section 154(1) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. However, the Senate rules that the request of Mr. President C-in-C is referred to the Committee on National Planning and National Identity Card for further legislative action and to report back within two weeks.
On the part of the Chairman, Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive, Executive Commissioners of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, the senate also cited the section 5(1)(4) of the Federal Constitution for confirmation while referring the Committee on Trade and Investment to take further actions and reports.
On the same ven, the senate confirmed President Buhari's request for resolution of the National Assembly for approval of the Reimbursement of N148.14bn through the issuance of Promissory Notes.
Senate rules that the request of Mr. President C-in-C is referred to the Committee on Local and Foreign Debt for further legislative action and to report back within two weeks.
