Nigeria's Former Finance Minister Now WTO Director-General

The former Finance Minister Dr(Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has been declared the winner of the World Trade Organisation on Wednesday 28th October 2020. She emerged victorious after defeating South Korean Yoo Myung-hee in the election. The World Trade Organisation is an organization housing about 164 members across the globe, on whose votes depends on who takes the lead after the tenure expiration of the former Director-General. 

Several sources had previously revealed that the former World Bank member would likely be the preferred candidate having the back-up of the African Countries leaderships ECOWAS inclusive. In fact, Bloomberg had revealed that the EU absolutely backed her quest.

She has broken record and regarded as the first Nigerian and African Woman to lead the most esteemed job of the WTO. The Nigerian Okonjo Iweala is expected to be formally handed over by her Predecessor, Roberto Azevedo who hails from Brazil whose contract expired in August 2020.
